YANGON, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar attracted over 2.84 million tourists as of October this year, according to the figures from the Hotel and Tourism Ministry on Saturday.
Figures in this year show a slight increase of foreign visitors, compared with 2.81 million in the same period of last year.
Of Asian travellers, over 236,441 visitors from Thailand arrived Myanmar, while France topped the list of western travellers, followed by those of the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.
Aiming to attract more visitors, the country is striving to promote eco-tourism, cultural tourism and community-based tourism in resource-rich areas such as historical landscapes, rivers, lakes, beaches, islands and forests.
Moreover, the government has recently announced that visa exemption has granted to Japanese and South Korean visitors as well as visa-on-arrival access to Chinese travellers starting from Oct.1 2018.
