SHANGHAI, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- A Belgian economic delegation of more than 600 members, led by Princess Astrid of Belgium, made a visit to Alibaba Group's Shanghai office on Thursday, in a bid to help more Belgian businesses expand in China through cooperation with the e-commerce giant.
The delegation held talks with Jing Xiandong, chairman and CEO of Alibaba's fintech arm Ant Financial and other figures who are in charge of Alibaba's multiple business units.
Alibaba and the Belgian government have been promoting the Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP), and building a logistics hub for cross-border e-commerce at the airport of Liege.
The eWTP aims at enabling small- and medium-sized enterprises and startups from the two countries to participate in global trade as conveniently as established multinationals, Jing said.
Belgian beers, chocolates, biscuits and suitcases have generated impressive sales on Alibaba's Tmall online shopping platform, he added, noting that more Belgian quality food products will be introduced into the Chinese market via Tmall Global.
Princess Astrid appreciated Alibaba's choice of Liege as a starting point of its European business.
