TEHRAN, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Government supporters on Thursday rallied in several cities in Iran, which had been rocked by riot, in a show of allegiance to the supreme leader and president, semi-official Fars news agency reported.
Iranians took to the streets in Shiraz, Isfahan, Qom, Yasouj, Shahroud, Karaj, Kerman, Zahedan and Bandar Abbas to show support for Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and chanted slogans against "rioters."
They also asked the government for increased efforts to control prices of other goods after its decision to ration and increase the price of gasoline.
Nearly 80 chain stores in Iran were ransacked and destroyed by the rioters in the past days, said Fars, citing reports from different areas in the country.
Initial estimates show that the losses incurred by the chain stores amount to about 17 million U.S. dollars, according to Fars.
