MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Five militants, including a Taliban shadow district governor, were killed as fighting planes struck a vehicle in Shirin Tagab district of the northern Faryab province on Sunday, army spokesman in the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai said.
According to Rezai, acting upon intelligence report, the fighting planes targeted a vehicle in Shirin Tagab district at 08:15 a.m. local time, killing five insurgents including Noor Agha Wasiq, the shadow governor of the restive Shirin Tagab district on the spot.
Security forces are continuing to chase the armed militants elsewhere in Faryab and other parts of the country, Rezai added.
Taliban militants who are active in parts of the relatively violent Faryab province have yet to make comment on the report.
