GARDEZ, Afghanistan, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Two police officers, including a district police chief, have been killed in a bomb attack in Afghanistan's eastern Paktia province, a provincial government spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.
"A bomb blast struck a police vehicle in Kerraj locality of Ahmad Abad district at Tuesday night. As a result Sarwar Husseini, district police chief, sustained serious wounds and a police officer dead at the scene," Abdullah Nasrat told Xinhua.
Police chief Husseini succumbed to wounds later at a hospital, the official said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The Afghan security forces' casualties have risen recently as they struggle against a surge in attacks by Taliban militant group and other anti-government fighters.
