BEIJING, July 14 (Xinhua) -- "The Lion King," a new live action-style remake, continued to lead the Chinese mainland box office on Saturday, after a strong debut performance Friday, China Movie Data Information Network reported Sunday.
The film, with prominent computer-generated imagery (CGI) special effects, raked in 141.11 million yuan (about 20.5 million U.S. dollars) at the box office, accounting for about 48 percent of the daily total.
It boasts a total box office of 240 million yuan within two days since its premiere.
A Chinese anti-drug action film grossed 85.82 million yuan, accounting for 29.1 percent of the daily ticket sales.
"Spider-Man: Far from Home," the latest installment of the acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe, fell to third place, generating around 25 million yuan.
