YANGON, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar held a 2020 & Impact of Social Media Forum-2019 here on Saturday to seek ways of promoting the good and reducing the bad results derived from social media impact and settlement of other matters.
The social media forum, organized by the President’s Office, was attended by stakeholders with various sectors including experts.
The forum hosted two panel discussion sessions, “Proposals for Settlement of Good and Bad Results of Myanmar’s Social Media Impact and Challenges” and "How to Promote Myanmar Social Media Constructively" in where experts from the respective fields took part.
"The closer the date of upcoming 2020 general election, the more we must carefully deal with hate speeches and fake news spread through social media," Thaung Su Nyein, chief executive officer of Information Matrix Company and one of the moderators at the forum.
At the forum, it was learnt that social media could make someone better-known or could drag someone down as it reaches almost everyone and becomes popular nowadays.
"Cybercrime Division under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is here to lend a helping hand for cyber bully cases which often occur in the country these days," an official of the Cybercrime Division told the Saturday forum.
