NEW DELHI, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Indian Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Friday laid stress on food safety and controlling food wastage on the occasion of the first ever Food Safety Day.
Speaking at an event held in New Delhi to commemorate the Food Safety Day, Vardhan said that people should pledge not waste even one grain of food, and "ensure that in our own personal capacities and in our institutions, contribute towards food security."
"This will help to eliminate poverty, hunger and malnutrition," said the minister, adding, "I appeal to all the people of India to make Eat Right movement a people's movement and people's participation."
The theme for this year's Food Safety Day was "food safety, everyone's business."
