MANILA, May 4 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake of 5.5 magnitude struck Occidental Mindoro province in the Philippines on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The institute said the quake, which struck at 9:05 a.m., hit at a depth of 12 kilometers, about 7 km southwest of Rizal town in Occidental Mindoro.
The institute said the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, will not cause any damage. However, it said that aftershocks are expected.
Occidental Mindoro is a province that occupies the western half of the island of Mindoro, just below the Philippines main Luzon Island.
