NEW YORK, May 3 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Music Ensemble of New York is to present its 58th annual spring concert on Sunday in Merkin Concert Hall, one of New York City's finest concert venues.
The concert, scheduled for 3 pm on Sunday in the 449-seat concert hall in Manhattan, features ancient Chinese classical to modern compositions performed on traditional Chinese instruments with western instrument in various settings from solo, small ensembles to the entire full orchestra.
Founded in 1961, the Chinese Music Ensemble of New York has grown from a few music lovers presenting Cantonese traditional music to becoming the oldest and largest Chinese orchestra in the United States, said the group on its web page.
One of the missions of the group is to spread awareness of Chinese music in the West. Its present members of almost fifty musicians play practically every type of Chinese musical instrument.
