KUNMING, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province arrested two suspects for drug trafficking and seized 38.45 kg of methamphetamine, local authorities said Friday.
The police in Longling County in the city of Baoshan received information in early April that overseas drug dealers were planning to transport drugs from Myanmar into China via Yunnan.
Police then rushed to the border areas of Zhenkang County in the city of Lincang to investigate the case. Around 1:00 a.m. on April 7, police intercepted a car in Mengdui Township and seized 38.45 kg of methamphetamine while apprehending the two suspects.
The two suspects who were from neighboring Guizhou Province attempted to transport the drugs to southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
Further investigation is underway.
Yunnan is a major front in China's battle against drug crime as it borders the Golden Triangle, an area notorious for rampant drug production and trafficking.
