JERUSALEM, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Two successful free throws by J'Covan Brown, with 1.3 seconds left, gave Hapoel Jerusalem a 75-73 home win over Spanish team Tenerife on Wednesday in the first leg of the European Basketball Champions League quarterfinals.
The deciding second game will be played in Spain on April 3, when a win by three points or more will send Tenerife to the Final Four tournament (whose location has not yet been determined), on May 3-5.
The Israeli team had an opportunity to reach the second game with a more comfortable margin, after having already led the halftime at 45-36, but the visitors took over the game with a 17-0 run from the start of the third quarter.
The last minutes were close, and after Brown's points from the line, Tenerife had a chance for a tie, but Tim Abromaitis missed a 2-point shot at the buzzer.
Brown was Jerusalem's leading scorer with 20 points, James Feldeine finished with 18. Former NBA superstar Amar'e Stoudemaire, who recently received Israeli citizenship, added 13 points.
In Tenerife, Colton Iverson finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Abroimatis contributed 16 points.
