TOKYO, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday as a lackluster performance by U.S. stocks overnight set a negative tone early on, with investors in a wait-and-see mood ahead of economic events in Europe and the United States.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 129.47 points, or 0.60 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 21,596.81.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 3.98 points, or 0.25 percent, to finish at 1,615.25.
Mining, retail and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
