TALLINN, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Estonian government decided Wednesday to call up 1,248 reservists for a snap military exercise, the Estonian defense ministry announced.
The supplementary reservist training event, titled Okas ("Quill") 2018, aims to review the functioning of the chain of command in national defense, from decision-making to gathering reservists in the rapid response structure, as well as to check for combat readiness, said a press release.
The exercise will be rehearsing in nature, it said, stressing there was no immediate security threat to Estonia.
The assigned reservists from the reserve unit of a logistics battalion, including those reservists assigned to the unit's mobilization reserve, must immediately report to the designated rally point, it noted.
In December 2017, an emergency military exercise Okas involving 669 reservists was held at the Johvi base in northeastern Estonia.
In accordance with the Estonian National Defence Act, the government may announce an additional reservist training to rehearse and check the combat readiness of reserve units at short notice, instead of the regular advance notice of 120 days, according to the defense ministry.
