NEW DELHI, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in Tuesday's blast at a steel plant in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh has reached 13, officials said Thursday.
The blast occurred in a gas pipeline at the state-owned Steel Authority of India's Bhilai Steel Plant in Bhilai town, some 30 km from state capital Raipur.
"While nine charred bodies were recovered soon after the blast, two of the 14 injured succumbed to their injuries at a hospital late that night. Two more injured lost their lives in the past 24 hours," an official said.
Meanwhile, Indian Steel Ministry has sacked the CEO of the plant and suspended two other officials.
A probe has been ordered into the blast, another official said.
The Bhilai Steel Plant is India's only producer of world class rails for the state-owned Indian Railways. However, this is not the first time that explosion has hit the Bhilai Steel Plant.
Six workers lost their lives in an explosion in the blast furnace of the plant four years back.
