SHENZHEN, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Andy Murray defeated top seed and world No. 11 David Goffin 6-3, 6-4 to advance into the quarterfinals at ATP Shenzhen Open on Thursday.
The victory marked his biggest win since he recovered from injury this year. The former world No. 1 has not won a single title since march 2017.
Murray got a comfort start, taking 4-1 lead following an early break of serve. Goffin managed to break back once but Murray gave the Belgian no chance to win the first set 6-3.
Murray continued to impress in the second set and led 5-1 before Goffin bounced and made it 5-4. Murray survived from three break points and fired a ace to clinch the victory..
Alex De Minaur from Australia beat Mackenzie McDonald from the USA 1-6, 7-6 (1), 6-0 to secure progress. The Australian will play next Damir Dzumhur, who beat Ramkumar Ramanathan 6-4, 6-2. Enditem
