PALEMBANG, Indonesia, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's women rock climber Aries Susanti Rahayu won a sport climbing gold medal on Thursday evening, making it the nation's first gold medal from the Asian Games' co-host Palembang.
Her gold in women's speed discipline becomes the 8th for the hosts at the ongoing Asiad.
Aries beat her compatriot Puji Lestari in the final session with a speed record of 7.61 seconds.
The two Indonesian women climbers made it to the final after brushing aside a Chinese pair of Song Yiling and He Cuilan, who eventually pocketed the bronze.
"One thing for sure: self control. The main problem in this sport is self control. Should I fail to address it, I would not be this far," Aries said at Jakabaring Sports City (JSC) sport climbing arena.
Aries was the champion of IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) World Championship, held in China's Chongqing on June 5.
In the men's speed discipline, Indonesia had the bronze, with the gold and silver medals going to Iranian Alipour Reza and Chinese Zhong Qixin.
Indonesia collects 8 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze medals, ranked number 5 in the 18th Asian Games tally after China, Japan, South Korea and Iran as of Thursday evening.
