DUBAI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday welcomed the UN Security Council (UNSC) adoption of a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Syria.
"Protecting civilians must be the international community's first priority. The Syrian people have suffered enough," said Anwar Gargash, UAE's minister of state for foreign affairs and international cooperation, on Twitter.
The UNSC on Saturday unanimously adopted a resolution demanding a ceasefire of at least 30 days across Syria that would allow humanitarian access and urgent medical evacuation.
The recent escalation of violence in Eastern Ghouta on the outskirts of the Syrian capital Damascus, as well as in Idlib and other provinces has raised international concerns about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in those areas.
