ACCRA, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo Thursday night congratulated new South African president Cyril Ramaphosa on his election by the parliament.
In a message, Akufo-Addo said Ramaphosa's election is well-deserved, and a vindication of the trust and confidence reposted in him by the Members of Parliament of South Africa, and the African National Congress.
It commended Jacob Zuma for his patriotism and statesmanship in resigning his high office, to satisfy the demands of the South African people.
It said hopefully, South Africa under Ramaphosa's leadership, will succeed in overcoming its recent challenges, and reinforce its position as a champion of progress and prosperity on the continent.
"A strong, united, prospering South Africa is a great force for progress in Africa," the message said.
"I look forward to working closely with you to improve the living conditions of our two peoples, and advance the national interests, and the wider interests of the African peoples," it added.
