VIENNA, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Austria's national museums registered record visitor number of 5.6 million in 2017, an increase of 7 percent on year, Austria Press Agency reported on Tuesday.
Citing figures from the Arts and Culture division of the Federal Chancellery, the report noted that the museum at the Belvedere, one of the city's iconic tourist attractions, received 1.4 million visitors, an increase of 7 percent over 2016, making it the most popular.
And thus, it marginally overtook the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Art History), which registered the next highest number of visitors at also about 1.4 million.
The Albertina museum, that features drawings, paintings, sketches, and old prints followed with a notable 12 percent boost to visitor numbers close to 800,000.
The new figures also showed that visitor numbers to the National Library increased a sizable 23 percent to nearly 440,000.
