TIRANA, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Albanian government Friday launched what it called an ambitious plan to plant 20.2 million trees till 2020.
"This project will get transformed into an action in national scale with broad participation and it will certainly be rendered into a substantial contribution that will ease climate change," Albania's Deputy Prime Minister Senida Mesi told a press conference Friday.
She noted that this action would turn the planting of the trees and recovery of forests into an annual priority that included and integrated all the relevant actors at local and central level.
Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism and Environment Blendi Klosi told reporters that planting of 20.2 million trees was an effort that the current government had decided to make to undo the damage caused to the forests during the last 27 years.
According to him, Day of Forest Service, marked Friday, was the best occasion of launching the National Plan for a Green Albania.
"There will be no amnesty for the companies that have made profits through damaging environment. They have to carry out reforestation of 6.7 million trees", said Klosi.
He also said that the plan for a Green Albania would be implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture.
