BANGKOK, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Authorities raided residential areas in the world-famous tourist resort of Samui Island and arrested more than 100 drug suspects on Saturday.
Policemen, army officers and other government personnel launched the latest crackdown on suspected drug traders and addicts throughout the tourist island off Surat Thani province in southern Thailand, confirmed provincial police commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Apichart Boonsrirot.
Those rounded up under Operation Pre-dawn included 120 alleged drug addicts and seven alleged drug traders, the provincial police commander said.
Sixty grams of crystal meth and 19 methamphetamine pills were seized along with four illegal handguns during the pre-dawn raid in Samui Island's residential areas.
The unidentified drug addicts are yet to be rehabilitated at a local government unit, he said.
