KAMPALA, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains have washed away parts of the Gatuna-Gicumba road that links Rwanda to Uganda, a government official said here on Wednesday
Mark Ssali, the Uganda National Roads Authority communications manager, told Xinhua by telephone that traffic has been diverted to Ntungamo-Mirama Hills road to access Rwanda.
Ssali said he was not sure when the main road could be opened again, noting that the affected section was on the Rwanda side.
Kigali-Gatuna is one of the busiest highways that links Rwanda to Uganda before proceeding to Kenyan seaport of Mombasa.
