RABAT, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed and 14 injured after a train collided with a van in the Moroccan city of Tangier on Saturday.
According to local authorities, the train was carrying goods to be exported through tangier port, while the van was carrying workers to a nearby factory.
Eyewitnesses told Xinhua that the van did not respect traffic signs and crossed the railroad crossing Beni Makada without paying attention.
The wounded were transported to local hospital for medical care, whereas an investigation was launched to determine the circumstances of the accident.
While road accidents register alarming levels, this kind of accidents are rare in Morocco.
A total of 3,499 people were killed in road accidents in Morocco in 2017, according to statistics issued by the Moroccan Transport Ministry earlier this month.
